University of Iowa Professor of Physics and Astronomy Don Gurnett and research scientist Bill Kurth will present a free, public lecture on NASA's Voyager 1 spacecraft and its historic encounter with interstellar space.

The lecture will begin at 7 p.m. Monday, Sept. 16, in Lecture Room 1 of Van Allen Hall, corner of Dubuque and Jefferson streets, on the UI campus.

In a paper published in the Sept. 12 online issue of the journal Science, Gurnett and his colleagues presented evidence for the first passage of a manmade object into interstellar space.

Individuals with disabilities are encouraged to attend all UI-sponsored events. Persons with disabilities who require an accommodation in order to participate should contact the UI Department of Physics and Astronomy in advance at 319-335-1686.
