Monday, April 29, 2013

Get some Vélo Love at the next University of Iowa Museum of Art (UIMA) First Friday reception from 5-7 p.m. Friday, May 3 at hotelVetro. For $5, indulge in beverages and hors d’oeuvres and get an up-close look at hand-built bicycles made by UI students. Also, Griffen Harris of local indie-beach-blues duo Chasing Shade will perform a special solo acoustic set.

Students Josh Vanstippen, Bobby Tso, and Won Jae Lee will present their bicycles and designs, made in the “Hand-Built Bicycle” class taught by UI School of Art and Art History Professor Steve McGuire. Participants will have the opportunity to not only get a close look at the titanium transportation devices, but also learn about the artistic process from concept to completion. The event will complement McGuire’s free public lecture the day before.

The UI School of Art and Art History is a unit of the UI College of Liberal Arts and Sciences.

Individuals with disabilities are encouraged to attend all University of Iowa sponsored events. If you are a person with a disability who requires a reasonable accommodation in order to participate in this program, please contact the UIMA in advance at 319-335-1727.
