Iowa artist leads workshop at UI’s Old Capitol Museum July 7

Iowa artist Judy Bales will host a lecture and workshop Saturday, July 7, from 2 to 4 p.m. in the Supreme Court Chamber of the Old Capitol Museum at the University of Iowa. The slideshow talk features examples of her work, and other contemporary and world-renowned artists, including a discussion on the creative processes of these works of art.

The workshop will include a hands-on opportunity for participants to create an object from ordinary materials. Bales’ direction for this workshop is inspired by her exploration of everyday, mundane materials and their potential to be transformed into structures with great beauty and artistic merit. The materials used are man-made, yet the inspiration originates in nature and the Iowa countryside where she has lived for almost 30 years.

The lecture and workshop are open to ages 18 and up. Pre-registration is required, and a $5 donation is encouraged. To sign up, contact the Old Capitol Museum at 319-335-0548.
