Iowa artist Judy Bales will lead a workshop on making art from everyday materials on Saturday, April 14, at 1 p.m. in the Supreme Court Chamber of the Old Capitol Museum at the University of Iowa. The workshop is offered in conjunction with the exhibit “Art Iowa: Inspired by Landscape,” which is now on display in the Hanson Family Humanities Gallery at Old Capitol.

The workshop, for individuals 18 and older, requires prior registration by calling the Old Capitol Museum, 319-335-0548. A donation of $5 is suggested.

A Judy Bales' sculpture is on display at Old Capitol Museum.

Bales, who lives in Fairfield, will begin her presentation with a slide show featuring examples of her work and the works of other contemporary artists who explore the concept of making art from found, recycled or reclaimed materials. The second half of the workshop will provide participants with an opportunity to create their own works of art under Bales’ direction.

For more information on Judy Bales and to view her portfolio of sculpture and public art, visit her website. More information is also available on the websites for Old Capitol Museum and the Art Iowa: Inspired by Landscape exhibit.
