Mother Nature's Child screening part of Earth Month events

As part of Earth Month 2012, the University of Iowa Office of Sustainability and UI Recreational Services will present a free screening of environmental education film Mother Nature's Child at 7 p.m., Tuesday, April 10, in the Illinois Room (348) of the Iowa Memorial Union.

A second showing will be held at 5:30 p.m., Tuesday, April 24, in the Illinois Room.

Mother Nature’s Child examines nature’s influence on all aspects of child development—intellectual, physical, emotional, and spiritual. In addition to looking at human health and creativity, the film explores cultural fears, the importance of risk in adolescence, and education of the “whole child.”

Shot in both urban and rural locations, the film features children of all ages, as well as insights from parents, teachers, and a forum of highly regarded experts:

  • Richard Louv, author of Last Child in the Woods and The Nature Principle
  • Jon Young, author of Coyote’s Guide to Connecting With Nature
  • Educators Stephen Kellert and David Sobel
  • Nancy Bell of the Conservation Fund
  • Brother Yusuf Burgess, who works with inner-city teens in Albany, N.Y.
  • Misha Golfman, director of Kroka Expeditions in New Hampshire
  • Amy Beam, founder of Beyond the Walls in Washington, D.C.

See www.mothernaturesmovie.com for more information about the movie. For information about more UI Earth Month activities in April, see sustainability.uiowa.edu/earth-month-at-iowa.
